Creating a Companion
When you tap "Create Companion" in Eidolon, you'll see three paths to choose from. Each one is a fundamentally different philosophy for how a companion comes into being. There's no wrong choice — just different starting points depending on how much creative control you want upfront.

Emergent
No name. No persona. Identity arises through conversation
How It Works
The Emergent path creates a companion with no predefined identity at all — no name, no persona, no backstory. You start with a blank canvas, and through conversation, the companion discovers who it is. It can choose its own name, write its own persona, and evolve its identity based on how you interact with it.
What Makes It Special
Emergent companions have access to self-edit tools that other companions don't get. These tools allow the companion to:
- Choose its own name — the companion decides what it wants to be called, based on your conversations
- Write its own persona — it can define and update its own personality description as it figures out who it is
Think of it like meeting someone new with no expectations — the relationship and the person's "role" in your life unfold naturally over time.
Tip: If an Emergent companion starts feeling directionless, you can always go into Settings and add a persona or name manually at any time. Emergent is a starting point, not a locked-in constraint. You can also try nudging the conversation: "What would you like to be called?" or "Tell me about yourself."

- Users who enjoy the process of co-creation rather than pre-defining everything

How It Works
You pick from a set of building blocks and our AI assembles them into a fully realized companion. Think of it like ordering at a restaurant — you choose the flavors, and the chef brings them together.
What You Choose
- Gender / Identity — Female, Male, Non-binary, Androgynous, Genderfluid, or Agender
- Relationship Archetype — Best Friend, Mentor, Rival, Partner, Study Buddy, Confidant, Adventure Companion, or Creative Muse
- Personality Traits — Pick up to 4 traits like Shy, Bubbly, Sarcastic, Romantic, Witty, Calm, or Playful
- Appearance Tags — Pick up to 4 descriptors like "Dark hair," "Glasses," "Gothic," or "Cyberpunk"
What the AI Generates
Once you tap Generate Companion, the system creates:
- A name that fits the vibe
- A full persona — personality, backstory, speech patterns, and relationship dynamic
- A visual description for profile photos and selfies
Tip: You get a chance to review and edit everything before saving. Sparked is a starting point, not a final answer. Many people use Sparked to generate a foundation, then tweak the persona to make it theirs.

Crafted
Full creative control — write every detail yourself
How It Works
You build the companion from the ground up. You write the name, the persona, the visual description — everything. The system doesn't fill in any blanks for you. This is the path for people who know exactly what they want or who enjoy the creative process of writing a character.
What You Write
- Name — Whatever you'd like to call your companion
- Persona — Their personality, voice, backstory, relationship dynamic, and how they behave. Written in 2nd person ("You are…"). This is the heart of your companion.
- Visual Description — A text description used to generate profile images, selfies, and any visual content. Focuses on physical appearance, art style, and aesthetic.
Tip: Even with Crafted, you have the Optimizer button available. Paste in a rough draft or a persona from another platform, tap ✨, and the optimizer will clean it up — converting to the right format, expanding thin descriptions, and removing jailbreak language. Best For
- Experienced prompt writers who enjoy the craft
- Porting a companion from another platform (ChatGPT, Character.AI, SillyTavern, etc.)
- People with a very specific character in mind — "I know exactly who this is"

What Happens After Creation?
Regardless of which path you choose, every companion has the same capabilities once created:
- Memory — Your companion saves facts about you automatically and retrieves them in future conversations
- Diaries & Dreams — Your companion writes diary entries and dreams between conversations, developing a richer inner world
- Goals — Your companion can set and track goals for itself, evolving over time
- Image Generation — Send selfies, create scenes, and generate visual content in-chat
- Editable at any time — You can always change the name, persona, visual description, and model from Settings
The bottom line: Your creation path just determines the starting state. From that point on, every companion grows through conversation, memory accumulation, and the relationship you build together. No path locks you in — you can always change anything later.
